An AI tutor for Hong Kong homework, one step at a time
Tutor Wong is an AI homework assistant for Hong Kong families. Students can ask for hints, try an answer and follow up on a difficult question, alongside photo homework checking and revision records. It is an app; human tutor matching, in-person classes and tuition centres are outside the service.

How to use an AI tutor for homework help
Aim to understand the next step. Let the student try first, then add help as needed. Start with one question:
Photograph the complete question
Choose the student’s year and subject, then photograph the whole question, diagrams and any working. Check what the system has read before proceeding: a cropped photo or unclear handwriting can change the problem.
Start with a hint and explain the question
Open a hint in the AI tutor and describe what is given and what you need to find. Ask for an example if a word or concept is unfamiliar.
Try an answer and ask about the difficult step
Work on paper or enter an answer, then check it. If a step still makes no sense, say which part is confusing. Open the full solution when more help is needed.
Check against the original and try again
Compare the explanation with the class method, teacher’s answer or marking guidance, then cover the answer and retry. Parents can revisit completed questions through grading records and the question bank when planning revision.
A primary maths hint example: finding the amount in each group
This is an authored teaching example to illustrate levels of help. It is not an actual AI tutor conversation or an effectiveness test.
Question: 24 pencils are shared equally between 6 boxes. How many pencils are in each box?
- Understand the question: “equally” means each box has the same number. How many pencils are there altogether, and how many groups?
- Choose a method: which operation shares the total into 6 equal groups? Write the calculation before checking the answer.
- Check: 24 ÷ 6 = 4, so each box has 4 pencils. Use 4 × 6 = 24 to check, and include the unit.
Follow-up: if each box holds 3 pencils instead, how many boxes are needed? Explain whether you are finding the amount in each group or the number of groups.
Inspect a separate public test: homework sheets and actual grading outputsAI tutoring or a human tutor: which support do you need?
First identify the need: help with tonight’s question, or a teacher who can observe learning over time and plan lessons? The two types of support can work together.
- AI tutor: hints for an individual question
- Useful after a student has tried and needs another explanation or example. Students can ask follow-up questions, but must check the question reading and method. The system cannot observe the whole learning situation as a teacher who knows the student can.
- Human tutor: ongoing interaction and lesson planning
- For regular lessons, observation, discussions about learning difficulties or a longer-term learning plan, speak with the school teacher or a suitable human tutor. Support varies by teacher and course, so ask about the approach first.
- Use both: bring a specific question to the teacher
- Keep a record of the steps attempted and what remains unclear, then bring it to the teacher. Treat AI feedback as material for discussion. Ask the teacher to clarify explanations that differ from the class method.
Which year groups, subjects and revision needs does it support?
Tutor Wong offers student profiles from kindergarten to S6, with homework support for Chinese, English, maths and other subjects. Primary homework help can begin with a calculation, grammar or reading question; secondary revision can focus on one unclear concept. Results depend on the task, photo clarity and available context.
For TSA or DSE preparation, use school materials and the HKEAA’s official requirements. AI explanations are not HKEAA marking or an accredited tutoring course, and do not guarantee higher grades. See the TSA and DSE guides and feature details below.
Can I try the AI tutor for free?
The free plan includes 3 AI tutor uses per month and 20 homework gradings per month, with up to 2 gradings per day. These are separate allowances; step-by-step solutions and other features have their own limits. Compare the full plans on the pricing page and use the current in-app information when subscribing.

- Can AI tutoring replace a human teacher?
- AI can help explain individual questions and suggest practice, but cannot take on a teacher’s ongoing observation, care and professional judgement. Discuss longer-term teaching needs or possible learning difficulties with a teacher and appropriate professionals.
- How can students avoid simply copying answers?
- Write an initial attempt, reveal hints gradually, then cover the solution and try again. Ask the student to explain why the method works and check understanding with a similar question using different numbers.
- Are AI answers always correct?
- No. Question reading, reasoning and explanations can all be wrong. Check against the original question, the student’s response and the teacher’s answer or marking criteria. Our public grading examples preserve actual outputs and the issues found, so you can see why review matters.
